Congratulations to OESH Shoes (http://oeshshoes.com/) for winning a Phase I SBIR grant from the National Science Foundation for the project entitled “Pellet-based 3D print extrusion process for shoe manufacturing.” This project will make additive manufacturing of shoes a reality by developing a reliable, pellet-based, cost-effective 3-D printing process. Advantages of additive manufacturing to produce shoes include the ability to offer mass customization tailored not just to fit, style, and colors, but to individual biomechanical gait characteristics. Dojo Research & Consulting has partnered with OESH Shoes to support the R&D effort by performing CAD modeling of critical components, flow system development for delivering blowing/expansion agents to the print head and by developing 3D printer instrumentation and data acquisition for reliability testing.
